Sad, Quiet Anniversary at Dawson

There are no official events taking place at Dawson College tomorrow to mark the third anniversary of the shooting that took the life of first-year student Anastasia De Sousa. However, the gate at 4011 de Maisonneuve Blvd. W. will be open for people leaving flowers at the foot of the tree planted in De Sousa’s memory. The college said the flowering almond tree will be the “anchor” of the Peace Garden, which will be inaugurated on the fifth anniversary of the attack in 2011. De Sousa, 18, was killed when a gunman opened fire in the college’s atrium on Sept. 13, 2006. Twenty others were injured in the attack. In a message to staff on Wednesday, the college said it wanted to keep the commemoration “low-key, solemn and personal.”
